Guitar players?

Hey guys.
I'm looking to buy an acoustic guitar, but I have no idea exactly what I should buy. Beginner guitars range from fairly cheap to pretty expensive, which is why I'd like someone with personal experience to give me a bit of guidance.
Is there anyone here who can help me?
How did you choose your first guitar?
Why did you choose this particular instrument?

Any help would be appreciated,
BigChief

hey cheif my old friend, as a bass player i can sort of give you an idea of what to look for.

becasue its your first one, you could pick up anything and they all feel the same, when you start playing other guitars and finding a style of playing (not music) then you can really start looking for what you want.

i started with a stagg bass it was ok then i found a style that i liked, its called slap bass, so i now have a peavey millenium 4 ac bxp, which is great for slap, now im after an ibanez BTB.

the best way to go about getting a new guitar is by askin your local dealer for something to get you going.

enjoy

Ey Kaz. :)
Boy, I thought no one would reply.

Well yeah I'll be sure to ask the storepersons for their advice as well. Thanks. I'll probably be getting this baby sometime this month, or the next.

So you play the bass. Cool. You in a band or anything? How long you been playing man?

ive been playin for just about 2 years, im not in a band, i would a drummer or some sort of drum machine so i can set my own patterns

this is louis johnson not my idle for bass playing but hes good

this is pretty much what slap bass is

lol that guy's great!
After I learn acoustic I'm hoping to move up to electric. You ever heard of Steve Vai? :D

lol cheers

to b e honest, this is just my opinion, but theres not much point in moving from acoustic to electric, get one or the other, that is if your funds are very limited then acoustic is the best place to learn.

they do make a different sound (as if you neded me to tell you), you can play something on the electric and then try the same riff on an acoustic and it will sound awful. some things work on one thing then it wont work on the next.

thats probably the hardest thing to find out, what works of different instruments and finding its pros and conns

Nice to see other guitar players here as well...

For me I just bought a cheap-o local turtleback acoustic guitar, it sounds good though. But I'm planning on buying an electric one this summer...

Yeah, I agree that there is a big difference on acoustic and electric guitars and you should really know when to use what.

I've been playing guitars (on and off) for about quite a long time now.

I've got an acoustic guitar :) Important for me : that it's american ;)
maybe Stagg :)

Well, I play guitar for some 3 years... and when I got my first one, the acoustic guitar, I bought the cheapest one, because I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. It paid off - I became obsessed with it, and I still play it. My option is - go with an average first guitar - no need for something expensive, you'll have time for that, believe me.

Why I chose it? Hehehe... well, I'm into rock, metal, those sorts of things... so I always wanted to try myself at playing. After a year of playin' acoustic, I got an electric guitar, and now I mostly play Iron Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, Purple, Zeppelin, Floyd... But I also play acoustic, it helps in relaxation and lets me be creative and compose things on my own :)

If you get obsessed with playing on guitar, believe me... it's going to be very easy to learn, to get skills, technique and learn the theory. I'm in a band, it's nothing too special, but we're trying hard and it's in progress :) Good will power and patience is all needed for guitar playing :)

Of course I heard of Steve Vai... :D What he does with the guitar should be illegal- really :D For The Love of God... just amazing, one of the best instrumentals I ever heard. Bad Horsie, Tender Surrender... amazing. However, I still prefer the teacher, Satriani :D

Dinaga : However, I still prefer the teacher, Satriani :D
You remind me of a good friend of mine...

Anyway just letting you guys know I bought the guitar some time ago. It's a sexy lil' thing, and I am pretty addicted to it, lol.

Anyway thanks for all your help pplz. Good to see ya around again Dinaga.

Cheers,
